Hi Pack Families,
I hope you all are having a fantastic week so far.
Den Meetings:
We have regular den meetings this Wednesday at 6:30 at Breen Elementary School, 2751 Breen Drive in Rocklin. As we are now meeting on the School grounds, both parents and Scouts need to bring a mask to wear.
Lions:
You will be meeting this week in the Library.
Tigers/Wolves:
You will continue to be outdoors this week to work on your Rolling Tigers Elective Adventure and learn about bike safety. Scouts, please bring your bike or scooter, helmet and wear light colored clothing instead of your uniform and bring your handbook.
Bears:
You will be continuing to work on your Bear Claws adventure this week so you will be meeting at Mr. Max's House, 5169 Camden Road, close to Breen Elementary. Scouts should bring a knife (if they have one), otherwise there will be extras for you to use. Parents, you will need to stay with your Scout for this meeting.
Webelos 1 Den:
You will again be meeting in Room 13 at Breen Elementary.
Webelos 2 Den:
You are meeting again in Room 32, please come in uniform. You will continue doing some fun experiments for the Adventure in Science Elective. Den Leaders Christine and Nicky will be there 15 minutes before and after the meeting to continue testing Scouts on their Scouting Adventure requirements.
Pinewood Derby, Saturday, February 12th:
Our Pinewood Derby is a little over 1 week away, on Saturday, February 12th at 2:00pm.
So we wanted to send out some important information. Oh, and if you still need a derby kit, please contact me to arrange a time to pick one up. We will be giving out 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards for the following:
- Lion Class
- Tiger/Wolf Class
- Bear Class
- Webelos 1 Class
- Webelos 2 Class
- Sibling Race
- "Pro Class" race for parents who want to race their own car
We also are handing out design awards for:
- Best Patriotic Design!
- Best Scout Design!
- Best of Show!
- Cubmaster's Pick!
and our 2 new categories
- Best Nature Design!
- Funniest Design!
I am looking forward to seeing all the amazing cars that you all make.
Bear/Webelos 1 Dens Parent Help Needed:
In order to make this a fun event that goes smoothly, lots of parent help is needed. As this is our biggest event of the year, the Bear Den and Webelos 1 Den have been assigned to help with this event. We will need help with set up and decorations starting at 12pm, running the race and clean-up after the race. We will also need help with running some tables. As we would like to have a few tables for scouts to make derby related crafts, if any of you have any cool ideas, please let me know.
If your Scout is in another den but you would love to help out as well, please feel free to sign-up. The more help the better.

Pinewood Derby Registration:
Wednesday, February 9th, during our regular den meetings, we will be registering all the pinewood derby cars. A few of our leaders will be heading up the registration. Parents should take their scout to their den meeting first and then meet in the Multi-use room to register their car. Once it passes inspection and is registered, we will collect your car and bring it back on Race Day. There will be a small workshop area set up for you to use if you need to make any necessary adjustments before registering.
To make Race Day go more smoothly we would like all cars to be registered on that Wednesday. We will need some helpers, so if you can come early to help with our Derby Registration, please let me know.
Attached are our all important "Official Pack 102 Pinewood Derby Rules". Please make sure to read these thoroughly.
Fast Track Hobbies:
Fast Track has been a great supporter of our Pack for years, donating prizes and gift cards for a number of our events. So if you need any supplies to make your car look and perform its best, like paint, racing stripes, weights, etc., please consider shopping at their store. Their new location is at 4420 Granite Dr #400 in Rocklin. I know they would really appreciate your business.
Van Damme Camping Trip: Save the Date!
We have scheduled our first camping trip for this summer and will be headed to the beautiful Mendocino Coast to camp for 3 nights in Van Damme State Park. Our dates are Friday, June 10th through Monday, June 13th. When we get closer to the date, I will send out an email with all the pertinent information and a link to sign-up. This is an amazing campground and we have had a lot of fun there in past years so you won't want to miss it.
