Van Damme State Park Camping Trip: July 19th-22nd!!

Hello Pack 102 Families,

You are invited to go family style tent camping with our Pack. For our first campout of the summer, we have reserved campsites for the weekend of July 19th-22nd in the Upper Loop of the Van Damme State Park.

Three miles south of Mendocino on Highway 1, Van Damme State Park offers a scenic beach, a lush fern-filled forest, and year-round camping. The highway runs through the park, separating the campground and the Fern Canyon trail head to the east from the beach and parking lot to the west. Visitors can fish for abalone or launch a kayak in a protected cove. They can explore a pygmy forest. They can hike, jog, or bicycle the splendid Fern Canyon Scenic Trail beside Little River. Of all the park system's units along the Mendocino coast, Van Damme is perhaps the richest in terms of historical resources connected with the redwood lumber industry. 

Van Damme is a great place for hiking, biking, birding, jogging, kayaking, botanizing, abalone fishing, and watching salmon spawn. Its trails including a 0.25 mile-long wheelchair-accessible boardwalk to view stunted trees in a pygmy forest.  The 1930s-era visitor center was once a recreation hall for the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Since the campground is about 4 hours away, we are camping for 3 nights. The cost will be $35 per person.  This includes the fee for camping on the site, and food (seven meals).  Possible activities will include hiking, fishing, and swimming. The campground also has campfire programs and the Junior-Ranger program for kids.

Food:  Friday night you are on your own, maybe grab something on the way up or go into Fort Brag after setting up camp. We will have a campfire each night so plan on roasting marshmallows and making s'mores. Saturday and Sunday the pack will be making breakfast, lunch and dinner, nothing gourmet or fancy, well maybe a little fancy.  Monday, breakfast will be provided.

We have reserved 6 campsites for a maximum of 50 people so sign up early to get your spot.

Your camp fees are due by July 5th so please make arrangements to drop off your payment at my house by then. Since we are limited on space, if we do not receive your payment by that date, we will remove you from the Sign-up so others will have a chance to sign up.

Den Meetings: We have regular den meetings this Wednesday at 6:30 at Breen Elementary School, 2751 Breen Drive in Rocklin.  As we are now meeting on the School grounds, both parents and Scouts need to bring a mask to wear. Cub Scouts This Week!

Hello Pack Families, I hope you all had a safe and Happy New Year! I can't believe it is already 2022. Looking forward to this year being better than the last and getting back to all of our fun scouting activities. Den Meetings: There are no den meetings this week. Our meetings will resume next week on Wednesday, January 12th. An email will be sent out next week to let you know where we will be meeting. Pack Leader Planning Meeting: We have scheduled a Pack Leader planning meeting for this Tuesday, January 4th at 6:30 at  Cubmaster Nicky's house, 2128 Broken Rail Lane in Rocklin.  We will be planning out the Pack schedule for the next 2-3 months. I apologize for the last minute, trying to coordinate schedules has been challenging. I will be bringing pizza for dinner so if you are able to come, please let me know so I know how much to buy. Hi Cub Scout Families, Hope you are staying cool this weekend. It is a hot one for sure. Due to our Fireworks Sales Fundraiser this week there are no scheduled activities. But speaking of Fireworks, I know like a broken record again, Lol.... Fireworks Booths - Help Needed - More Shifts Still Open!!
